Teaching beginner groups

Every beginner group is different, and you will want to tailor the speed at which you move through learning materials to your specific group. Generally, starting with ‘Minibridge’ - a version of the game which does not require bidding - is advisable, at least for the first session. This familiarises students with the concepts of contracts, basic scoring and declarer and dummy play, and lays a solid foundation for learning about bidding.

Play minibridge: Notes

This short summary from English Bridge Education and Development (EBED) explains how to play and score the simplified version of bridge that is an excellent introduction to the game. See also the video explainer below.

A set of hands that can be pre-dealt for lessons, with explanatory notes on each.

A short (1m 27s) video outlining how the game works. Before playing, students should also watch the two videos below to help them choose the best contracts.

Bidding and Card play courses
