BUILD A GROUP
Whether you are an enthusiast who wants to introduce bridge to a group in your school or youth group, or you are a newcomer to the game and want to learn with friends, our aim is to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you to do that. The ‘Bidding Buddy’ approach lets you get playing straight away without having to learn a bunch of theory up front and supports organic learning through playing.
If you play already and want to teach a group, the modular structure of the learning materials on the site allows for maximum flexibility. You can choose to have the group playing minibridge for as long as you like whilst working through card play modules and encouraging practice on the online platforms mentioned in the Get Some Practice section, or plunge into bidding sooner rather than later. The bidding modules form discreet units and can be taught in whatever order you prefer. We plan to provide a bank of practice hands in both pdf and pbn formats which will align with the topics in the bidding modules so you can pre-deal hands for your students or load the hands into online play platforms. If you would like to request practice hands on any topic in the meantime please use Contact Us to let us know which topics and we will be happy to supply hands.
If you are learning with a group of friends, first make sure that everyone is familiar with the content of the Get Going section and play at least a few hands of minibridge to get familiar with the concepts of Declarer, dummy and defenders, and familiarise yourselves with the meanings of the different contracts. Once you are ready to move on to bidding, read the introduction in About Bidding and off you go. The quick help panels in our Bidding Buddy will help you find the bids you need and you’ll be surprised at how quickly you will remember things and not need to look them up. If you want to accelerate your learning, you can practice card play individually on the two platforms mentioned in Get Some Practice and work your way through the bidding modules one at a time, watching the videos and doing the quizzes to help you.
If it’s not easy for your group to be in the same place at the same time to play you can get together virtually, using Bridgebase.com, which is free to use and where you can set up a table and play together. This is even more fun if you set up a shared call or video call to chat while you play. If you would like advice or help with using the various online play platforms please get in touch.
If you have a group that have got to grips with the basics and would to compete with others at a similar level let us know and we will do our best to put you in touch with thers in the same position.
At New Tricks we are all about sharing and we are always delighted to hear from both learners and teachers that want to share their own useful experiences or to learn from how others have approached the complexities of the game. Please do get in touch if you fall into either category and together we can spread the love of bridge.
