WITH 4+CARDS IN A MAJOR

It can seem weird to bid a weedy four card major suit (or even a good one) when you have a longer/stronger minor suit but remember that the dream is finding the 8+ card major suit fits where they exist. Because your partner needs five cards in the suit to open a major, they will often have a four card major when they open 1C or 1D.  By showing your major suits first, you will help to find those lovely fits.

The panel above will help you to choose the best response when your partner has opened a minor suit and you can boost you understanding of this topic by watching the about responding to minor suits.  There is also a quiz to check how much you have understood. Both the video and the quiz cover the cases where you don’t have 4+ cards in a major as well as those where you do but we will give you separate help panels to cover these cases so you can find the right bid easily.
